This newer book about the Shetland Islands with 380 pages, 24 pages of photos and numerous maps gives an overview of Island Life, Geological History, Natural History Of Man In Shetland, Vegetation, The Sea, Whales And Seals, Lochs And Burns, Land Animals, Terrestrial Birds, Seabirds, Birds Of Fair Isle, Shetland Naturalists, Oil And The Natural Enviroment and also has a small section about the Shetland Sheepdog in the chapter on "Farm Animals".

"The Shetland sheepdog perhaps ought to be included with the other farm animals. It is probably originated from a cross of a Scottish collie with the all-purpose 'toonie' dog, which scavenged the crofting townships. At some time crosses with the 'Yakkie' dog of the Greeland whalers must have also taken place, giving the Shetland dog a black muzzle. Since 1908 breed standards have been established, and the modern selected dog probably bears little resemblance to the early crofter's scavenger."
