We feature on our front cover this month the Shetland Sheepdog, Ch. Lothario of Exford 1097 AL, owned and bred by Mrs F.P.B. Sangster. He became a Champion at the age of thirteen months after winning Challenge Certificates at the City of Birmingham Championship Show in September 1953, Bournemouth also in September 1953, and Birmingham National the following month. He was Best of Breed at the latter two Shows and only beaten at the City of Birmingham by an 'Exford' bitch.
Ch. Lothario is an outstanding tricolour stud dog, and has performed the unique feat of siring a tricolour Champion, Debonair of Exford, a blue merle Champion, Blue Charm of Exford, and a sable Champion, Honeysuckle of Exford. He is also the sire of Black Moth of Exford, winner of two Challenge Certificates, at Cardiff in 1957 and Cruft's 1958 and Swallow Tail of Exford, reserve Best of Sex at Bath in 1956. His half brother, Int. Ch. Crag of Exford, is a British, American and Canadian Champion, and one of many 'Exford' dogs which have gone abroad and made names for themselves. Lothario's maternal grand-sire, Jack Tar of Exford, was the sire of two British Champions and an American Champion, all 'of Exford'.
Aladdin of Exford, a grand-son of Ch. Lothario, was sent as a puppy to New Zealand and is now a New Zealand Champion, having won eight Challenge Certificates, one of them under Mr J.H. Braddon, and been seven times Best of Breed.
Mrs Sangster has several dogs at stud, and details can be obained from her at The Golden House, ... " *1)
